Panel Discussion on eliminating the Statute of Limitations for Child Sexual Abuse
On Wednesday Feb. 22 there will be a panel discussion with local experts on child sexual abuse regarding the Omnibus Child Victims Act, a bill that will eliminate the Statute of Limitations for child sexual abuse that currently keep most victims from having their day in court.
There will be a showing of the short film “Confession”, followed by a Question and Answer of panelists including Melanie Blow, COO of the Stop Abuse Campaign, survivor and an expert on the bill, Wendy Malsegna, a forensic investigator for crimes against children, and Robert Way who works at the Bivona Child Advocacy center after years of working for Child Protective Services and law enforcement.
1 in 5 New York Kids Are Sexually Abused. Help Prevent That
The CDC reports that 1 in 5 children are sexually abused.
9 out of 10 of the perpetrators are never brought to justice and never appear on sex offender registries.
They are protected by New York State laws.
