How to Help
Hello and thank you for your interest in volunteering to help change the world to one that’s free of abuse. My name is Ron Wicke, a father, a survivor and National Director of Development for the Stop Abuse Campaign, and part of my job is to make sure that you, our volunteers, our AbuseStoppers, remain updated and informed about how and when you can help.
We are dependent on you to get involved, get your family, friends, neighbourhoods, schools and churches involved because to stop abuse, it’s going to take all of us.
How to help is pretty easy because there is lots of work to be done.
TIME
Commit to giving a certain amount of time to volunteering. Figure out how much commitment is actually doable, whether it’s a few hours a day, a week or a month. Once you’ve decided, then have a look at the list below and let me know where the best fit for you would be, or just let me know you’ll help with anything! We find people help better if they’re comfortable with what they’re doing because it’s about all of us just doing what we can.
We’re building tools so everybody can spend just a few minutes thinking about their safety and the safety of those they love, we call it safety planning. They’ll be available soon but for now here are some ways you can help.
Join the campaign.
If you haven’t already, click the link and join the campaign. One dollar a month is all we ask, more if you can afford it. Your money goes directly into our efforts and the efforts of other organizations that benefit from half of all of our proceeds. Luckily, we’re low overhead!
Social Media
Like us!! Support us on Facebook, Twitter, and Linked in. Share our news stories on your FB page and let’s get people talking! Get your friends to like us and join us on Facebook.
Speak Out and Spread the Word
Reach out and talk to other individuals, groups and organizations about the Stop Abuse Campaign and about how all of us can work together to end abuse in this generation.
We’re building the tools and the training you’ll need to do this necessary work. As we progress and take on social, media and political campaigns to raise awareness, money and recognition, we’ll need you in numbers more than ever. It takes a lot of voices to create real change and that’s exactly what is called for, a real sea change in America’s perspective on abuse. It really is about all of us just doing a little. Think about it this way, we know how to stop abuse, we’ve just got to do it. All of us working together breaking the cycle of violence.
Comment on what we post. Tell us what you think. We’re here to help you stop abuse. Tell us what you think of current events, submit your own fact based articles on Child Sexual Abuse, Trauma, Intimate Partner Violence, Elder Abuse, Bullying, etc.
Volunteer
There are plenty of volunteer opportunities in your state. If you’d like our help to find the right opportunity drop me a line, we’re building a community. Start a support group or if you already run one become a part of our directory of self help groups.
Become an advocate for children, males, females, GLBT, etc.

Thank you for everything you are doing to help all of us, stop abuse.

Sexual Abuse Prevention Education is the key! ‘Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept’ is a beautifully illustrated children’s picture book that assist parents and professionals to open up the topic of good and bad touch with children. The story is fictional and about a brave little knight called Sir Alfred. There are discussion questions at the back of the book to guide parents/children through the topic. Written by author, teacher and mother of three, Jay Sanders. Jay is a published author but mainstream publishers did not want to publish a book on this topic so Jay and her family have funded this book themselves as they feel so passionately about the topic. Forewarned is forearmed! Confident children are rarely targeted by perpetrators. We must education our kids from a very young age. This book is appropriate for children as young as 3 through to 10 or 12.
What a shameful lack of support from the publishing world. What a squandered opportunity to teach, to educate and start our children talking early on about how to prevent and report abuse. Perhaps Jay would like the book to be featured on our Stop Abuse Campaign website? We would love to spotlight her, the book and her journey to now.
Thank you for your support. I would love Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept to be featured in your campaign and equally it would be great to share my story why I wrote this book. Moving forward, parents and the community in general must recognize that teaching body safety is a part of the parenting journey, just as road and water safety is. This conversation with our kids is a must if we are to reduce the statistics.
