‘Honor No Evil’ – Stop Abuse Campaign
Statues are for heroes; Joe Paterno is no hero.
Thank you to those who signed our petition and helped make sure that statue was removed. Now you know what can happen when you follow your heart, and your conscience. Now you know what can happen when we act as one, pulling together for a common belief, a common cause.
But make no mistake. Don’t throw your hands in the air and scream, “We won!” Because ironically enough, this wasn’t about a football game, where there are always winners and losers. This was about choosing between right and wrong. This was about justice.
This was and is about justice for 8 brave boys and 12 determined jurors. This was and is about justice for every American child, man, woman and senior who has ever been abused, is being abused and may be abused in the future. This is about justice for every decent, loving, law-abiding American citizen who cares — and knows better.
And yes, this was about a different kind of justice, too. A message that we are sending to the President, Dean, faculty, students, parents and benefectors at Penn State University. A message that will leave an everlasting imprint on the memory of Joe Paterno. A message that we are sending to all those who live there, and all over this great country of ours:
Football does NOT trump decency. Football does NOT trump honesty. Football does NOT trump violence. Football does NOT trump victims’ rights.
A man who knew young, disadvantaged, under-privileged boys were being sexually abused and willfully ignored should not be celebrated. Joe Paterno is no hero.
Statues are for heroes.
Now the world knows it.
And now our real work begins. Go to stopabusecampaign.com Take the pledge. Help us get the message out, and keep it there — because if we do, there will come a day when abuse will go. Thank you.
