FAQ: The Ace Study

The Effect Of Child Trauma

Ten forms of trauma are equally harmful to children, and affect their adult health. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) affect social and mental health, linking them to poverty, sexual victimization, committing or experiencing violent crime, and mental illness.  Children with an ACE score of just one are twice as likely to be alcoholics. The cost to taxpayers is estimated at $1,000,000,000,000 a year. Most ACEs are preventable.
