Any rape is an ‘abomination’
Rape is rape.
Rape is rape, whether it is committed by a stranger or someone known by the victim. Sexual assault is violent, traumatic and life-altering. To suggest, as Brooklyn 94th Precinct Commander Captain Peter Rose did, that date rape is not as bad as rape by a stranger is disturbing and alarming particularly because Capt. Rose is a law enforcement officer responsible for the safety of thousands of people.
Capt. Rose made comments, reported in the New York Daily News, at a community meeting last week in connection with the 62 percent increase in rapes in the precinct from 2015 to 2016, stating that date rapes are “not total abomination rapes where strangers are being dragged off the streets.”
1 in 5 New York Kids Are Sexually Abused. Help Prevent That
The CDC reports that 1 in 5 children are sexually abused.
9 out of 10 of the perpetrators are never brought to justice and never appear on sex offender registries.
They are protected by New York State laws.
